The Department of Information Technology (DIT) has been supporting the research and development effort in the areas of electronics and information technology at various institutions. US-India Network Enabled Research Collaboration Workshop

Indiana University, Internet2 and the GLORIAD/Taj project with funding from the US National Science Foundation,along with the Indian Education and Research Network ERNET India had organizing a "US-India Network Enabled Research Collaboration Workshop" held in New Delhi, India on December 5-7, 2010.

This workshop bring together networking experts and domain scientists from India and the US to provide an opportunity for Scientists and researchers to understand the current state and future plans for networking and cyber-infrastructure in India and the US.

It will facilitate Networking and Cyber-infrastructure experts to understand the current state of, and future demand for, networking and cyber-infrastructure support for science and research collaborations between India and the US.

US and Indian researchers and their graduate students to establish and strengthen research relationships resulting in increased scientific collaboration between the two countries.

ERNET India as a consortium member in MyFIRE project in parternship with ITU has organizing an Euro-India Future Internet Research and Experiment collaboration Workshop in pune, on 16th December 2010

On 13-17 December 2010 Pune hosted the ITU-T Kaleidoscope event: Beyond the Internet?- Innovations for future networks and services. It is the third in a series of peer-reviewed academic conferences that aims at increasing the dialogue between experts working on the standardization of information and communications technologies (ICTs) and academia.

The main objective of the workshop is to identify possible relationships which could be established between the EU FIRE community and Indian future internet research communities, with a focus on the future internet test bed.

To reach this objective, many presentations will take place all the day to

Understand Future Internet Research and Experimentation context in India and Europe: Indian and European ICT context, identified needs for test bed and common issues.
Present example of testbed in India and Europe
Present example of collaboration between Europe and India in ICT field
Make a focus on standardisation aspect, to improve the testbed efficiency for the future internet research and bridge research and market

In addition round table and panel discussion will be organized enabling cross-exchanges between Indian and European researchers and providers of facilities, to build international future internet network and create relationship opportunities.

A joint BELIEF, 6CHOICE projects symposium on " Distance Learning as an e-Infrastructures application: innovation and future trends ".

This event was jointly organised by the BELIEF and  6CHOICE projects with the support of  GLOBAL and 6DEPLOY consortia.
During the two days participants with various backgrounds and from diverse disciplines and regions exchanged information and ideas on the adoption of e-Infrastructures for Distance Learning. The latter forms a priority issue not only for the Indian Society, but also for the Learning Society of the future as a whole.

Representatives from the Secretary of State for Education, EC Delegation to India and from the Ministry for Communications opened and attended the symposium. Researchers, developers, users, policy makers gathered together to discuss about innovative developments and future trends in Distance Learning, resulting from the adoption of e-Infrastructures. Given the importance of e-Learning and the way in which e-Infrastructure can help transform it, top-down policy issues as well as bottom up user and technology themes were addressed.  Top down themes such as financing and sustainability were also tackled in the plenary sessions while the more precise issues related to Middleware, Data and Connectivity were addressed in parallel tracks. Parts of the event were interactively broadcasted over the internet.
